A Nepalese Woman

by | Oct 9, 2020 | 0 comments

Almost immediately after we arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal, my husband and I went for a walk. We love to walk. It’s how we best explore new surroundings and discover the real beauty of a city.

And we hadn’t been out of our guesthouse for more than a few minutes when I saw her – this authentic, beautiful old Nepalese woman. With her long grey hair up in a bun, the typical shawl, smoking a cigarette with a lot of sass. I knew I had to get her picture.

However, even though portrait photography is my favorite I am often afraid to ask people. Yet, this time there was no time for fear – before I knew it she would be gone. And looking at her I just had this feeling she would be fine with me and my camera snapping away.

I was right, so right! She loved having her picture taking, she even started puffing away on her cigarette to make this picture extra special – and it is! It is one of my absolute favorites.

Vietnam Sunset

Reaching this panorama viewpoint in Ninh Binh isn't for the faint of heart, of the weak of knees – getting up there is only possible by a steep climb of 500 steps. And it's busy – very, very busy (well, maybe not right now.) Although I am not a big fan of tourist...
